Heir Bears by Jane Woodard

Please visit all the Heir Bears who came to this event just to meet you!  Some of them will be dressed up in their favorite outfit, and some of them will just be themselves, with no frills, but ready to enjoy the party.

About the Artist:  I am Jane Woodard and I have been creating real fur bears and other critters, using recycled furs, since 1999.  My fur bears are heirloom quality, fully lined with a cotton fabric to stabilize and reinforce the fur.  They are created to ensure you can pass them on to your children and grandchildren.  Recently I have added some faux fur and mohair bears to the den and they are all getting along just fine!

My bears have been featured in articles in Teddy Bear Review (including on the cover), Teddy Bear and Friends, and the latest issue of Teddy Bear Times magazines.  One of my bears is also the proud winner of a 2016 URSA award.

"PETER the Pumpkin Eater"

"Peter" is a 22" bear, created from a recycled dark raccoon fur coat.  The dark brown fur has silvery tips running through it.  The undercoat is very soft and dark brown.  This shows up a lot in his face where his features have been scissors-sculpted.  He is fully jointed and firmly stuffed with polyester fiberfill.

"Peter" has contrasting dark beige suede pads, and a hand-embroidered brown Perle cotton nose.  He has imported black glass eyes.

"Peter" wears his blue denim overalls and a straw hat because he is going out to the local pumpkin patch in search of the perfect pumpkin for making a Halloween jack-o-lantern.  He did find a small one, but that will probably become a delicious pie or maybe some pumpkin bread for Thanksgiving.

He comes with a sewn-in tag and a removable hang tag.

"OPIE"

"Opie" is a 20" bear, created from a recycled grayish-brown Australian opossum fur coat.  This fur is dense but much softer than it looks.  It is a mixture of several shades of gray and brown with some light tan running through it.  He is fully jointed and firmly stuffed with polyester fiberfill.

"Opie" has tan suede pads, and a hand-embroidered brown Perle cotton nose.  He has imported black glass eyes.

"Opie" wears a red pullover sweater vest and a vintage multi-colored felt beanie.  He also carries his pet dog, "Andy."  He comes with a sewn-in tag and a removable hang tag.

"PATSY"

"Patsy" is a mohair bear designed and sewn by fellow artist, Cathy Swieckowski.  Cathy passed away two years ago before she could finish it.  I recently met Cathy's husband and I promised him I would finish several of the bears Cathy started and left behind.

"Patsy" is 10" tall, made from a cinnamon brown sparse mohair fabric.  She is fully jointed and stuffed with polyester fiberfill.  She has matching brown suedecloth paw pads, vintage black shoebutton eyes, and a hand-embroidered dark brown Perle cotton nose.

Cathy liked to use vintage accessories with her bears, so "Patsy" wears a vintage cream-colored silky ribbon tied in a bow around her neck.  She comes with a removable hang tag.

"BUDDY"

Baseball season just ended and "Buddy's" team didn't make it into the playoffs.  But he is young and not easily discouraged.  After all, there is always next year and he's going to keep playing sandlot baseball until he makes it into the big leagues.

"Buddy" is a 15" dark royal blue faux fur (tissavel) bear. He is fully jointed and stuffed with polyester fiberfill.  He has white velour-like paw pads, imported dark blue glass eyes, and a hand-embroidered dark blue Perle cotton nose.

"Buddy" wears a dark blue and white striped cotton T-shirt and a blue and red baseball cap.  He carries his baseball bat and baseball so he can practice before the next big game.

"Buddy" has a sewn-in tag and a removable hang tag.
